Dominical Sunset
Dominical Sunset

When you're visiting Costa Rica, you should take advantage of the beautiful weather every chance you get. One of the most magnificent times to head outdoors is right when the sun is about to set, turning the sky beautiful hues of orange, red and yellow. Whether you are staying inland or along the coastline, you'll be able to catch a glimpse of the rainbow of colors painted across the sky. But, there are a few spots around Costa Rica that stand out from the rest. These are my favorite places to hop along the shoreline at dusk.

Dominical

Dominical in South Puntarenas is one of my most favorite places to visit both during the day and at night! This beautiful beach is one of Costa Rica's finest, and it attracts travelers to its serene beauty year-round. This dramatic sunset turns the sky a magnificent golden color. Just imagine your toes digging into the wet sand as you stroll along the shoreline, hearing the calm crash of the waves and gazing out onto the bright horizon. Life doesn't get much better than this.

Tamarindo

As a popular beach-goer community, Tamarindo's main strip consists of restaurants, bars and other vendors, but if you walk to the southern end of the beach, you'll find yourself among fewer travelers. The southern region of Tamarindo is far less populated than the northern portion, making it an ideal spot to watch the sunset. You may see a few surfers enjoying the last wave of the day, or locals getting their feet wet in the water. And just as your about to call it a night when darkness falls, you may just hear a rumbling beat, as several open-air restaurants here offer live entertainment at night.

Manuel Antonio

Most notable for Manuel Antonio National Park, the town of Manuel Antonio is just as beautiful. Actually, Manuel Antonio is a unique place where the mountains meet the sea and the jungle surrounds the hilly landscape. This makes for a truly one-of-a-kind sunset. Along the hillside, there are hotels, residences and restaurants where you can witness the sun cascading down to meet the sea. With a tropical cocktail in hand, you can watch the sky turn marvelous colors. You may even be able to find a hillside pool bar, which would be the ultimate relaxation.

Playa San Juanillo

Sitting just north of Nosara, Playa San Juanillo remains fairly unknown by travelers. This small fishing village features stunning white-sand beaches lined with coconut palms and almond trees. The tranquil surf hugs a coral reef, so this is a great place to spend the entire afternoon and stay for the sunset. To get the best view possible, climb up the tiny, hilly peninsula in the middle of the beach. This perch gives you an unobstructed view of the sun setting for the night.

Santa Teresa

Located along the southern tip of the Nicoya Peninsula, Santa Teresa and other local towns in this area feature unbelievable sunsets with unobstructed views. This region is only accessible via dirt roads, so you know that you are entering an area without much light pollution to ruin the view. This calm and relaxing locale is perfect for a romantic evening for two. All you need to do is gaze at the vibrant orange sunset.

Do you think that I overlooked one of the most beautiful sunsets in Costa Rica? Believe me, there are many! Where is your favorite place to watch the sunset?
